Vanessa Trump, the wife of president Trump’s oldest son Donald Trump Jr, filed for divorce on Thursday.
According to public court records, Vanessa Trump filed for an uncontested proceeding, meaning the divorce was amicable, she’s not expecting a legal battle over custody of the couple’s five children or their assets.
The paper said the president’s eldest son and his wife of 13 years “were living separate lives” and that Trump Jr, was “never there”.
Trump Jr and his brother Eric, 34, took over the management of the Trump Organization after their father was elected president. While his sister Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, moved to Washington and took senior jobs in the White House, Donald Trump Jr. chose to stay in New York after the election.
In a joint statement, the couple said they had decided to go their separate ways., adding “We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time.”
Last month, Vanessa Trump opened a letter to her husband containing an unidentified white powder and was briefly hospitalized as a precaution, but the substance turned out to be nonhazardous. A Massachusetts man was charged with sending the threatening letter.
Trump Jr and Vanessa Trump married in November 2005 and have 5 children together.
